We do recover

When, at then end of the road, we find that we can no longer function as a human being, either with or without drugs, we all face the same dilema. What is there left to do. There seems to be this alternative: either go on to the bitter ends, jails, institutions and death, or find a new way to live.

In the past very few addicts ever had this last choice, those who are addicted today are more fortunate for a new way has been proving itself in the lives of many addicts. It is available to us all

It is a simple, spiritual, not religious program, known as Narcotics Anonymous

How it works

"Our program is a set of principles written so simply that we can follow them in our daily lives."

Many addicts say it is a simple program for complicated people. There are four main parts to NA

  • Meetings: meetings enable us to meet other addicts, hear their experience of recovery and make new friends with whom we can live clean. Our experience shows us that those who keep coming to our meetings regularly stay clean.
  • The Steps: the 12 steps of narcotics anonymous free us from the wreckage of our past lives, provide us understanding of ourselves, enable us to make amends for that past and to live a new way of life.
  • Service: "we keep what we have only by giving it away". Service is an essential part of recovery, whether it is putting out chairs at a meeting, making the tea, or simply turning up. Service makes us feel part of the fellowship.
  • Pick up the phone: Simple to say, pick up the phone, not the drugs. When we first come to NA, we are used to looking for differences, one of the first things we learn is to focus on similarities. Picking up the phone when times are bad (and good) gets us through, without the need to use.
